Astoria, WA. - Long Beach, OR. - Newport, OR. - Florence, OR.

We've made it to the Pacific Coast and more beaches.  Roberta is in heaven since our RV park is just walking distance to the beach.  Temperatures all week range from highs in mid 60s and lows in the mid 50s.  Cool, but very comfortable.  Long Beach RV Park isn't bad, but it's very tight for a 42' motorhome.  You better like your neighbor too since the sites are very very close.  We've been to a couple state parks in the area that are much nicer and would accommodate our 42' motorhome with room to spare.  Next time we'll go the state park route.  One week isn't enough time to see all the attractions and still have time to relax.  We'll be on the go the entire time we're here.  We were planning on leaving on Monday, 21 Aug, but since the total eclipse is on Monday, we are going to try and leave a day early to avoid the heavy traffic they are predicting.  We have a 3 hour drive south to our next destination so hopefully we won't run into too much traffic.  Loving the Oregon coast.

Trent is as happy to be on the beach as Roberta.

A look south along the beach.  The Columbia River is just on the
other side of the distant jetty.

This is the beach within walking distance from our RV park.

A dead baby seal washed up on our beach during the night.
Sad.

Roberta loving her walks on the beach.

Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from our beach.

A view of Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.
Operated by the U.S. Coast Guard.

North Head Lighthouse under renovation.

Two Coast Guard rescue craft during exercises.  The Coast Guard patrols
the mouth of the Columbia River 24/7 due to the treacherousness of this area for ships.

Very nice visitor's center on Cape Disappointment.

One of the jetties in the distance.  We walked out on this jetty and
talked to several fisherman.

Mt. Rainier National Park - Packwood, WA.

12-14 August: Mt. Rainier National Park.
Arrived at Cascade Peak RV Park in Packwood, WA. on 12 August.  The scenery around Mt. Rainier is beautiful.  Trees are huge and the surrounding vegetation is thick and green.  We took several day trips.  Not enough time to do any hiking, but we did get to see Mt. Rainier from several sides.  The drives through the national park were awesome.  Next time we'll spend more time so we can take some of the many trails in the area.  One of our favorite days so far on this trip has been meeting up with Cole and Laurie Maddox.  They are very good friends of ours from Colorado Springs who moved to Randle, WA. not long ago.  We drove out to their new home and it was an awesome place. Surrounded by huge trees and lots of vegetation, a small spring fed stream runs by their house, and 35 acres of beautiful trees, ferns, and vegetation fill the property.  Very secluded and quiet.  We had dinner with Cole and Laurie, and their sons Thomas, Michael, and Jackson.  Had a wonderful time. In the RV park where we stayed we met two wonderful couples from Washington, Mike & Lara Botsford and Dale & Shannon Scofield.  Lara has two Boston Terriers and during one of our walks around the park we stopped by with our Boston Terrier, Trent, and we visited for quite awhile. Mike was very interested in our full timing and he had lots of questions.  Wonderful people who we hope to run into again.

Entering Mt. Rainier National Park.

Green, green, green.

Narrow roads through most of the park.

Trent got to go with us on this little hike.  He was very happy.

Dear friends from Colorado Springs, Cole and Laurie Maddox.

Roberta was hoping we'd see more bear in the area.
She wore here cool shirt in case we did.

We loved how green the mountains were.

One of the lodges in Mt. Rainier.  This lodge was almost covered
in snow one year.  The peak of the roof was the only thing showing.

An old stump in our RV park with bears carved into it.

Bruce had a little helper while doing the dishes.
