Last Post for Drifting Dwellers

6-14-18
After 4 years of traveling around this beautiful country we have decided it was time to establish a Home Base once again.  When we started this journey we sold our home and our HOME became wherever the motorhome stopped for the night.  Alaska via Canada, Corpus Christi Texas to Cape Canaveral Florida, Astoria Washington to Coronado Island San Diego, Yellowstone, Disneyland, and many places in between.  Too many beautiful places to mention.  The first several years we didn't miss having a home base (home), but this past year we decided we missed having a place to come home to (a home) and especially being close to family.  With that said we have put a contract on a home in Pueblo West, CO. where we can come back to after our future travels.  There are too many places we still want to see in this country and we will continue to travel.  We're excited about our new home, which we will close on July 2nd.  This will be our last post for a while, until we make our next trip.  We still want to make a  trip to Key West Florida where we got married in 1974 and a trip to upper northeast U.S.  We hope you have enjoyed our travels with us.  It's a bit of a change, but not the end of our travels.

Graduation In Salt Lake City

After enjoying a wonderful time in Disneyland with our son Eric, his beautiful wife, Marlo, and their three handsome boys, Lawson, Ethan, and Logan, we headed to Salt Lake City, Utah to see our son Eric graduate from Westminster College with a BA in Business Administration.  To top off his graduation he graduated Summa Cum Laude.  Very proud of him and his achievements.  All this while working full time, Army National Guard duties, and dedicated father and husband.  A shout out to his wonderful wife, Marlo, and mother-in-law, Laurie, for their endless support during this whole journey.  Anytime we're visiting our son and family we love having Lawson and Ethan spend the night with us in the motorhome.  Pictures of our stop in Salt Lake City.  Always a great time.

Camp Pendleton FamCamp - Disneyland

We left Coronado Island, San Diego, and made a 2 hour trip to Camp Pendleton FamCamp near Oceanside, CA.  We were able to get a site right on the beach and it was great every morning and evening to watch the sunrise and sunsets.  It was a great place for biking and hiking along the beaches.  After a couple weeks at Camp Pendleton we headed up the road to Seal Beach, CA.   Here we spent 4 days and went to Disneyland for 3 days with our son Eric and his beautiful family.  Had a great time there.   Here are just a few pictures, more to come.

Coronado Island, San Diego

We left Colorado on March 3 for Coronado Island, San Diego.  On our way west we stopped off in Mesa Arizona for a week to visit we good friends, Ron and Alana Carnes.  We had a wonderful week with them and enjoyed to beautiful weather.  We didn't leave Mesa unscathed however.  During one of our bike rides Roberta wiped out big time.  Her front tire left the sidewalk and when trying to get back on to the sidewalk she did a face plant.  She was wearing a helmet and luckily ended up with just a few scrapes and nice black eye. We were 5.5 miles from the park and she didn't want to ride it back to the motorhome so I called Ron and he and Alana came and got us.  Roberta was too  shaken to ride further.  She's OK now, but her first bike ride since the accident was quite traumatic.  She was ready to go back to the park after only a half mile ride. She's doing much better now.

After leaving Mesa we stopped of at Yuma, AZ. for a few days to visit some other friends we met in Oregon this past year.  Dave and Marhsa Farmer are from San Diego and are building a new home in Yuma.  We had a wonderful 3 days with them.  They took us into Mexico to buy a few things.  We didn't realize it until the day we were to go down to Mexico that our passports had expired last December.  We took our chances and went into Mexico.  Coming back out we held our breath and the Mexican custom agent looked at our passports and waved us through.  We didn't have to spend time in a Mexican jail.  HA....  I wouldn't want to live in Yuma because of the wind and dust storms.

We arrived on Coronado Island at the Naval Base's Fiddlers Cove RV Park and Marina on March 15th.  What a beautiful place to stay.  We're right on the water with the San Diego bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other.  Our front window faces the marina and across the bay is the Naval Base where all the big navy ships dock.  We can see at least 3 aircraft carriers from our window along with many other navy ships.  There is a submarine base on the other side of the island and we saw a sub leaving the harbor last week.  Our daughter Jennifer and two granddaughters Lily and Macie came to visit for a week.  We took them to the beaches, toured the USS Midway (carrier), San Diego Zoo, went to the tide pools at Point Loma, saw the sea lions at La Jolla Cove, and just enjoyed their company.  We sure enjoy having family come to visit.  We're still wanting to get out and do some kayaking.  We bought new bikes and have been enjoying biking along the island.  We love this place and will be back.

Lots of pictures taken and more to come.  Enjoy...
