Galveston Island

1/22/16: Arrived in Galveston, TX. today (1/22/16) and we’re staying at Sand Piper RV Resort.  The park is right on the beach in Galveston.  The sea wall that runs the entire length of Galveston Island is just outside the park gate.  We love riding our bikes on the sea wall through town.  We left Port Aransas this morning and before leaving we found out the ferry that would take us across the channel to Rockport could not handle motorhomes due to low tide.  It’s very rare they have this situation, but because of the full moon and strong winds coming out of the North, the water in the channel was being blown out into the gulf and the water in the channel was too low.   Not being able to cross on the ferry meant we had to go back through Corpus Christi to get to Rockport, a 45 mile altroute.  The winds were pretty strong the entire trip to Galveston and was a challenge at times.  One nice thing about our travels was that diesel fuel was $1.61 a gallon.  When you put in 70 gallons, that’s a very good thing.  When we got all set up in the motorhome we met our friends from Michigan for dinner.  What a great time we had and the food was great.  We’ll be here a week before heading to Orange Beach, AL. and Cedar Key, FL.
